Bogey’s Sports Bar: From Steel Containers to Estes Park’s Favorite Rooftop Hangout

A Bar Built from Grit (and Steel)

If you’ve wandered down Moraine Avenue in Estes Park lately, you may have looked up and spotted something unexpected: a rooftop deck perched on the corner with mountain views, sports on the screen, and a cold drink in every hand. That’s Bogey’s Sports Bar — and it’s not just another watering hole. It’s a story of family, engineering, and turning two shipping containers into something special.

I caught up with Terry, the man behind Bogey’s, for a quick chat about how this whole thing came together. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t your average build.

A Shipping Container? Yep. Two of ’Em.

“We’re sitting in the middle of two shipping containers,” Terry told me. “We had the middle wall cut out by a company in Denver called Rocksbox. They engineered the space, cut out what needed cutting, and installed the doors and windows.”

After that, it was all hands on deck — literally.

“My son Cam and I did the rest,” he said. “We hired a few subcontractors, but this place is our project through and through.”

Cam, short for Cameron, is Terry’s son and business partner. Along with Terry’s wife, they’ve poured sweat equity into every inch of this bar. From design to build-out to operations, it’s been a true family affair.

The Deck Was Always Part of the Dream

Terry’s not new to construction — he grew up in it. So when he envisioned Bogey’s, the rooftop deck was a must.

“I knew I wanted an outdoor space,” he said. “That’s part of why we used containers. We could build it up high enough to connect it to the footbridge from Moraine.”

Yep, you read that right. Bogey’s has its own bridge. You can walk straight off Moraine Avenue and right onto the top deck. It’s one of those clever design elements that makes you wonder why more places don’t do it like this.

A View, A Game, and a Cold One

What makes Bogey’s special isn’t just the architecture (though that’s pretty cool). It’s the vibe. Big screen TVs face out toward the deck so you can catch the game under open sky. The bar serves up cold beers, good food, and mountain air — no reservations required.

It’s got that small-town warmth you only get when the owners are standing behind the bar, not just collecting checks. As Terry put it, “Cam’s gonna end up with it all someday. I just hope we last that long.”

A Place That Feels Like Home

At the end of the day, Bogey’s is more than a bar — it’s a family legacy built from the ground up. A place where locals and visitors alike can kick back, enjoy the view, and feel like they’re part of something real.

So if you haven’t made your way across that bridge yet, consider this your sign. Stop by, grab a seat on the deck, and raise a glass to hard work, clever design, and good people.
